I got several comments and questions regarding this event which deserve some clarification:

1. Sorry the dates did not show on the title because it was too long and were cut by the Matronics system.

2. Camping on the airfield is not allowed. However there is an area located very close (100 m.) to the aircraft parking were camping will be tolerated. There is no showers nor toilets close to that area. Toilets are available at the airfield terminal building and at the Aero-Club during opening hours only.

3. Hotel Le Cap is the recommended choice for two reasons: it is located right on the airfield and the dinner on Saturday evening is at the hotel's restaurant. Le Mas d'Estello is mentioned as a back-up, in case Le Cap is fully booked.

Some more info:

If you have booked your hotel room and cannot attend for any reason, you can always cancel your reservation, provided you do it at least 48 hours before arrival. That is applicable to both hotels.

Some flatland pilots have expressed their reluctance to fly to Gap due to the location of the airfield in mountainous area.

iTS A BIT EARLY FOR ME REMI TO MAKE FIRM PLANS BUT I FULLY INTEND TO COME ALONG ALBEIT A FLIGHT ON MY OWN. I AM FAMILIAR WITH GAP TALLARD HAVING FLOWN THERE TWICE IN A GROB 109B MOTOR GLIDER. 

JUST LETS HOPE THAT THE WEATHER IS GOOD EN ROUTE FROM THE UK

THIS WILL BE MY 57TH CROSSING OF LE MANCHE. THIS TIME DOUANE CLEARANCE  AT LE HAVRE

i WILL BE IN G-IANI AND INTEND TO CAMP IN THE ALLOTED AREA. ARRIVAL ON THE SATURDAY WX PERMITING

But you won't need to clear customs from UK to France AFAIK.

Just called the customs office in Germany a few days ago and the assured me, that you don't need to clear customs (only immigration), if you arrive in Germany from the UK, since the UK is in the Customs Union but no Shengen member.



So an airfield with immigration should suffice.

Immigration or customs: for France that does not make any difference. Coming from the UK or any other country outside Shengen , you must stop at a "border crossing" airport. Same thing for the return trip. Most of the time you will not see anybody from the police or customs, but you cannot avoid those stops.

In the past I rarely saw customs at French airfields but in the last year or so they have turned up every time outbound and inbound including Sunday’s and lunchtimes. It might just be me of course. 

They are always helpful, polite and it doesn’t take long.

It appears that this fly-in will no longer go ahead. I'm sorry to hear that Remi is not feeling well enough to manage the even. I'm sure we all hope you feel better soon, Remi.

Glad to hear it's still on.



I don't know what routes people are planning to take, but I'm considering the following. Comments / advice appreciated:



Membury UK to Troyes Barberey via Goodwood, Amiens and DEVIM to clear immigration.

Troyes - Grenoble

Follow the valley south of Grenoble past Corps, Saint Bonnet en Champsaur, Gap Hospital and into Gap Tallard.



I could route via Valence, but that would be at the expense of some amazing mountain scenery.
