Ladies & gents,
Can anyone give advise and/or procedure(s) for servicing the CJ6 nose gear shimmy dampener?
Mine's ok for now but may need service soon...
What's the best way to add fluid? I presume Mil-5606 is best?
Thanks in advance all-
Justin

Yes, have the tech manual in front of me now; describes the shimmy-d's internal parts well, but haven't seen an actual servicing procedure yet. Ie- inject 5606 fluid thru orifice on L/hand side? Syringe or needle req'd? Swing nlg to far L or far R first?
Anyone with previous exp to share?
Thanks heaps-
Justin

Justin;

Don’t know for sure (my copy is at the hangar) but I suspect this is covered in the Component Overhaul manual.
In any case before using 5606 you need to ensure that seals (existing or new) are neoprene. If in doubt measure and soak in 5606 for 2 days, If dimensions or shape change they are natural rubber and incompatible.
