Good day All,
After getting almost 50 hours on my Hobbs during my test flights and subsequent pleasure flights,

it has come to my attention that my seat making abilities leave a lot to be desired. To that end, and for the sake of my end, I was wondering if anyone has had success ordering seats from a custom seat manufacturer like Oregon Aero, et al.? Looks, cost, material chosen, ease of installation, cleaning……these are the points I would appreciate feedback on.
Thanks to all in advance.

Mike,

We have Oregon Aero seats and love them. They are comfortable on long trips and have held up well for nearly 1000 hours. That they are designed with safety in mind (consideration of impact loads and fire protection) also was a factor in our decision. On the down side, they are expensive and heavy.

We had them incorporate seat heat elements which we use occasionally here in Michigan. That has worked well too.

That seems to me to be the ideal solution for a stable flying couple like Jim and Heather, (weight apart). If like me you fly with a variety of friends or other people’s children and are a bit obsessive about weight, then an alternative is to paint the seat backs and use cushions together with a layer or two of impact absorbing foam under your seat cushion. You then have a lightweight adaptable solution, which with the right selection of cushions can still be attractive and comfortable.

Duane, take look at: http://www.seatfoam.com

I bought their foam after talking with them at KOSK. My wife sewed a set on covers and I have used them for the last two hundreds.

I bought three layers for each bottom and two layers for the back. I made one hard layer for kids to raise them up, but I use it on long flights.

There was a good set of pictures on the old Europa web site, but I can't find them now. I'd use two layers of hard then one on medium for bottom ans one hard and one medium for back. The bottom area needs a support for your back and that needs to be made for your back/butt.

It was about a quarter of what the Oregon seat were going to cost.

+1 on Oregon Aero seats!
Legs of 4 hours+ are super comfortable and I am one with back issues.
