I’m planning to repaint all the removable panels in my CJ. Powder coat or wet paint? Pros and cons please.

Gil;

I did a few small steel items in powder coat, notably the cowl latches.
They turned out OK and served the purpose of resisting tool damage.
One of the problems with it was the inability to produce the exact color
that I wanted. However I live in a small town and you may have access to
a more proficient operator.

One caution note: If you are planning to powder coat heat treated aluminum
alloy, which is basically the entire aircraft, you need to have a discussion
with them re the temperatures in use, what the effects are and their
ability to re-heat treat and re-certify if that is in order.

I don't know the precise answer but I can tell you that al. alloy annealing
begins at just over 150*F though at that temp. it may take a month or more
to show a detectable loss of strength.

Best;
Walt
