All right, when my airplane was delivered, the fuel gauge worked normally. However, after taking the wings off and putting them back on my fuel gauge doesn’t seem to work normally and actually can be intermittent. It does have power to the gauge and the low level lights. The gauge reads empty with a low level light on one side and the other side is intermittent.

I was wondering if there is anyway to test the continuity of the wire from the gauge to the fuel transmitter sensor on top of the wing or at least to the wing root area. I have the bags installed but I do have access to the screws at the sensor. I would like to test the sensor to gauge continuity to make sure everything is good there. I believe I hooked up all the canon plugs and the electrical plugs at the wing connection. However, if anybody knows what the wire connectors look like for the fuel gauges that would really help. Maybe I missed one.

Also if anybody has a way of testing the fuel sensor’s or any other part of the system I would appreciate any feedback. I would like to take the airplane out of town and I get a little paranoid when I can’t read my fuel gauge.

Thanks,

SAM

If you have the 30 gallon bladders in the wings and the vent controls in
the cockpit. Contact me off list. My plane had that system installed
when I purchased it. I have the installation instructions, wiring
diagrams and the calibration procedure for the system.

Suggestion as well. While I do like having the gauge in the plane working,
installing a fuel computer such as the JPI FS-450 is a really nice
addition. It shows fuel burn at the moment helping with your cruise
settings. It calculates the total fuel used and displays the remainder in
the system. I just installed one in my plane and it is a really nice piece
of information. I am sure the group has other instruments that they like
for comment as well.

I resceived some good information from Mark, however, I still need to know what the connectors look like between the wing and wing route for the fuel system. Does anyone know if it’s the large metal Canon plug or the smaller gray plastic Automotive style connector?

Also, after reading the information I received, it talked about calibrating the Nanchang fuel gauge to be used with new bag tanks. I was wondering if anybody has calibrated the gauge and is able to discuss that? I’m wondering if I may need to re-calibrate my gauge after disassembling the airplane. However, before I do that I want to check the wiring and make sure it has good continuity all the way to the sensor. This is why I need do you know which connections are for what in the wing root.

You can contact me off list if you would like.

OK, so I did some investigating and I determined that I think I need a new fuel sending unit. Since I do not know my 30 gallon fuel bladder manufacturer I need some help locating the unit or identifying the manufacturer.

I am including a picture of the unit. Does any one know where to get one or who made my bladders?

Thanks!
