Passing throught 1150 hours, it appears that my oil door latches are
wearing through the hatch edges.  I've attached a picture approximating
my installation (thanks to Brian and Brandi for the image).

Despite the metal to metal contact of the button latch, pressure and
vibration has slowly worn thru the thin piece of steel I had inserted
into the edge of the hatch to bear on the latch.  It hasn't completely
failed yet but will shortly.  Working on a new hold down method. (I know
from previous experience that a  open hatch will remain open but in
place while in flight).

The hatch, despite double skinning and all, was never stiff enough to
maintain a good fit in flight.  There's a lot of air pressure trying to
push it out.  May work on a short term and a longer term fix.

Just FYI folks.

Sorry to hear this, Bill. I actually just got done fitting all the parts on my oil door in a similar manner.

I know this is completely unrelated, but I’m wondering how others have built up epoxy/flox on the top of the camlocs. Seems like somehow you need a “mold”, but I havent figured out how to do this without the epoxy sticking to everything. I took a few pieces of aluminum sheet that approximated the thickness of the oil door and cleco’d the camlocs on there... wasn’t able to get them out without boogering up the epoxy after it dried.

Thanks
