All

Can anyone confirm if the high compression piston and ring sets can be used with the Housai hs6 engines? I know they fit the yak (perhaps they’re interchangeable between m14p and hs6??)

Also are these only produced and sold by Barrett or are there other suppliers?

With thanks

All the engines can accept high compression pistons, but the M 14 family pistons are different with a larger piston pin.

Motorstar has manufactured higher compression pistons for the HS6a and the AI14 engines. The limitations are that users must use 100LL and due to the construction of the basic engine can only safely bump up the compression from 5.9 to 6.3.

Hi George;

The HS6a (285 HP) stock piston gives a compression ratio of 6.2 +/- 0.1.
The HS6 and AI14R (260 HP) engines are 5.9 +/- 0.1

Thanks for the replies which suggest there's only an upgrade piston for the HS6 engine (not the hs6a which already has 6.1:1 compression and therefore isn't really an "upgrade").

Does anyone know if Bill Blackwell is active still with CJ6's and what his contact details are, email address or web contact?

With thanks

We have produced two sets for clients at 6.3 to 1 (M14P compression ratio)
with the 3 ring SPC pistons. One for a Wilga and one for a CJ6. I do not
recall any significant performance increase reports other than the reduced
oil consumption due to the 3 ring pistons.

I have both engines and have swapped parts between them several times. The House has a different cylinder head with a slightly different compression ratio, so the pistons are different. Also you can get help from resume planet to get reliable information easily. However, it’s not too difficult to swap them out. The only real difference between the two engines is that you need to use a different flywheel on the Housai because of its higher compression ratio.
