Hello - New to the forum and looking for a little help. I currently have a TR1 in my shop for repairs from a nose gear collapse. I have a new assembly from Hendricks Manufacturing - that is beautifully built BTW - It is all mocked up and lower mounts are pilot drilled and upper mount is ready to drill. I just want to make sure I have it in the right place before boring large holes thru the firewall. I have found various drawings and such between the TR1 and TR4 that give the lower pivot point 1" drop (that I have) and every thing seems to line up. My question is on the upper mount - I have the spring nut all the way down and there is an upper castle nut I am guessing is just a stop in case the spring nut backs off for some reason. Does any one run the castle nut down to the spring nut or leave it up at the cotter pin hole as shown in the picture? Just looking to see every ones opinion. Thanks for the input!!

Hi John
Glad u didnt Drill new Holes ... The original aluminum Top
Mount should be reused (doubt it would be damaged from Leg Failure !?) ...
or if the original top mount is not available .. making a new one is simple
. as its just common Aluminum Angle stock .... Drilling new Holes so close
to Old holes would be a mistake i think .

I have attached a pic of a Leg that is the same as my TR1 Leg . the pic is
not great quality .. but shows the use of One Nyloc Nut only . Your Castle
Nut is a way to ensure the Leg doesn't accidently drop out of the mount and
depart the firewall and aircraft in flight !!
The second Nut is to adjust center shaft Free Play .. when the aircraft
weight is resting on the Spring while on the gnd ,

The set up as shown in the Pic .. and is the same as mine ... uses One Nyloc
Nut that does both jobs .

A piece of Felt or similar should be placed Under that Flat Washer and
between the Ally Mount .. to help make quieter metal Chatter when the big
Washer Stop is contacting the Ally Mount while Taxing etc.. over any rough
gnd etc .

Hope that helps .. just my 2 cents ..,
Graham
TR1 # 080
