Has anyone had a problem with squealing brakes during use? One side seems to be more prone to this than the other.  New pads at annual in Sept too. This is not new. I have had it for quite some time, years. I read a thread recently about securing the brake lines to gear legs in more than three places, say 5 or 6. Seems to change depending on air pressure in tires too.

Larry,

I doused my brake rotor with liberal amounts of laquer thinner, while scrubbing same with sandpaper and brush. Also cleaned pads. I also put some automotive "squeal stop" on backs of pads. Squealing ceased, so one or more of these cures seemed to work.

Larry;

I had the same problem as you describe.

RV6-A Tires wear unevenly so I rotated the tires at condition inspection time, squeal persisted. Put new tires on airplane and squeal went away. Of course I also did many of the things Jerry mentioned when I changed tires, i.e. cleaned rotors, repacked bearings etc. Did not use squeal stop.

Dick,
A couple years back I swapped tires (Van's) and the noise went away for a while. I also have done the cleaning and re-surfacing of the pads/rotors which also helps for a while. Now I have new Goodyear Tires (at annual in Sept) and lo and behold it is back. I am beginning to think tire pressure enters into the equation. I am running about 34# now and have noise. I am going to lower it to say 28# and see it that changes the problem as step one. Have you heard about the brake lines on the gear legs vibrating and thus noise? Also, I did change pads on the offending gear (at tire change). Which makes me suspect I may have glazed them etc. I'll give them a good "resurfacing" also as step two.
