I'm working on my -7A wings and am to the point of drilling the Z-brackets.
The problem is that the Z-brackets seem to be a little bit too high. I've
got about 3/64 gap between the trailing edge of the tank skin and the leading
edge of the main skin. Does anyone know if this is normal or will it close
up when screwing the tank to the spar? I can close the gap by pressing the
tank towards the spar with 30-40 lbs of force, but I can see that it flexes
the baffle slightly in the process.

I had this situation. I believe it was Ken at Van's that said a little gap
creats a better line for paint. He said that when the aft forward skins
butts up to the forward edge of the aft skins that there is a greater chance
of the paint cracking along this line. My plane isn't painted yet so I can"t
verify his claim.I know that some have gone to extordinary lengths to get
them to butt with no space.

My left wing tank overlaped the leading edge by about the 3/64, while on the right wing everything is fitting close. I assemble the entire wing skins with lots of clecos, 50% in skins and 33% in the spars. I match drilled the right wing skins last night. With all the clecos in place I can detect no mid wing sag. This includes using 1/8 clecos in the tank skin to plate-nuts, as they line the tank with everything else. If you have drilled the tank sking for the screws, perhaps you could put a few in place to see if is makes a diferance. In my opinion 3/64 pre-paint does not seem like much to me. I am actually amazed how well all the parts fit.

Try loosening and tightening screws in a different fashion to get a better fit. Small variations can be introduced or resolved during the installation of the screws.

Is anyone having P-Static issues? Has anyone been putting static wicks on? My gear leg fairings are putting out some serious static that gets into my comms. My ant are just aft of the spar. My leg fairing finishing cuffs are just crap, has anyone used others that are pre made? Thanks

Michael, how were you able to determine the fairings were the culprit. My antennae is just before the spar, both comm and transponder. I used the Van's fairings and intersections. I had RF interference but was caused by the Coax cable being to close to other wiring.

When I remove the cuffs the problem stops. Coax is double sometime triple shielded, I don’t see how you would get any RF through the coax but hey you never know I guess.
