Gang:
Much thanks to all who replied to my questions about installing the .025 rudder nose skin. After some serious struggling with the .025 skin, I ordered a .016 skin from Zenith, and will use the existing skin to make up the tools/jigs to install the lighter one. Anyone put in a third nose rib?
Next question - There don't seem to be any dimensions in the drawings for the part of the thick aluminum tail spring that goes into the Matco tailwheel bracket. It is possible to infer a *maximum* insertion distance because of the need to clear the steering arms. But there is no *minimum* insertion distance. Nor is it clear if you should cut the spring down to 1.25" or 1.5", as there are channels for both in the bracket. (If you use the 1.5" width, you would need to put a thick spacer between the bracket and the spring to fill the stack.)
Any experience or advise on this one?
Thanks,

Andy,
There are channels machined into the tailwheel
for 1.25 and 1.5" springs. Bill Massey and I have
been communicating off-list about tail spring options.
He had a spring made in the correct dimensions for a
very reasonable price locally, and I bought a cheap
spring from spruce and modified it (See archives). I
will send you the picture of my taiwheel and spring
off-list to illustrate - since the attachment was lost
in matronics. If anyone else cares about the pic,
e-mail me off-list. The insersion distance is evident
in the picture.
