Bill Clapp was able to reduce the amount of time to polish by about 50% by starting with a wet sanding with 1000 grit paper, followed by another wet sanding with 1500 grit.   With this method you only need to use Nuvite C and S grades.  This is what we did with the 2nd half of my plane.  It came out great.  The first half was done with the full Nuvite treatment.
