Hi,
has anyone got the pukka gen about Red Bull Air Races being at Monument Valley on `our` weekend?

There is nothing on their web site and they have not responded to my e-mail. Anyone? The only lead we have I think is that Lar rang Gouldings and they said `Yes Red Bull are there` Any confirmation anyone?

I am putting together a holiday. Roughly at the moment fly to LA, around 4/5th May. Drive or fly to San Diego for a few days (they have moved the Spruce Goose to Oregon). Drive to Palm Springs for a couple of days. Fly to Sant Fe for a while. Drive to Durango area and then to MV for 18th/20th. Drive to Durango. Fly to Denver and then back to UK .

These are only the bare bones but if Red Bull are at MV I am tempted to pull the plug on the whole thing and either postpone it for a year or maybe make the Homer Kolb factory fly in later this year.

If the races are scheduled anywhere in the vicinity of Gouldings it will clobber airspace and our flying . We had 100000 people turn up to a local venue last year and the pilots were practising every day. I have no wish to be anywhere near a crowd like that or have a NOTAM slapped on the area to keep flyers out.

Cheers

Pat

Hi Malcolm,

Thats really nice but it doesn`t get over the problem of massive crowds and a crimp in local flying at an actual air race event. The crowds have to be seen to be believed. That is not what I was hoping for in the middle of a desert. I was expecting to find a resonably quiet campsite with a chance to BBQ and chat with the people on this list with whom I have only corresponded and hopefully to scrounge a lift in someones 2 seater.

Cheers

Pat

I agree with you, Pat. I'm real wary of events like that. Went to 'em - race tracks, etc when I was much younger, but want no part of the furor now.   Lar.   Do not Archive.
