Has anyone added an extra lock to the door of their V35 Bonanza. I have
hear of people adding another lock below the existing one on the door handle.
Does anyone have any information on how to do this?

Thanks,
John Monday

I installed the Aviation Research (Oregon) deadbolt lock to my H35 years ago because the stock (in-the-handle) lock was ineffective. STC'd, straightforward install, functions well; I'd do it again. It's 100% independent of the factory lock and door mechanisms. Not sure of today's availability or cost. Some people don't like the "Coke machine" style of lock; it's fine with me. -- Mike Truffer

Thanks Mike I will check into it.. if you go to a locksmith.. you can get a
matching barrel lock for the luggage door. I got the one for the luggage
door already.. and wanted to change the door key as well.. Just curious.. you
can only lock it from the outside and cannot unlock it from the inside (if
you locked someone in?) is that how it works!

Thanks,
John Monday

The AR kit includes a lock for the baggage door, too, keyed the same.

Neither lock can be unlocked from the inside the aircraft, although I suppose one could flip open the RH pax window and reach the lock that way, with the key, as if he were standing on the wing.

But the lock in the main cabin door is a simple deadbolt lock with no springs or anything. It requires a human using a key to move it one way or another. (The baggage lock functions like the factory lock; it's part of the latch assy.)

In other words, I don't see how someone could get "accidentally" locked in the cabin.

Wasn't worried about that.. was just worried about someone breaking the
window and opening the door. at least they would have to crawl through the
broken plexiglass to get in!!!

Thanks,

One of the arguments against extra-secure locks is that it may be better to let a thief have easier access to the cabin lest he use a crowbar or whatever and really damage the airframe.

No solution is perfect, I guess. After considering the above argument, I still prefer good locks. --Mike
