Brandon, pal I'm with you. In the same batch of videos, there was a guy that seemed to be flying a little too low. Could be the camera lense. Worry about him.
I didn't choose a 601XL just to do loops. HOWEVER, I would be disapointed to the max if a six G sport plane couldn't do a simple, no frills loop. And only when my wife wasn't with me. If that were really the case, I may haul all this tin to the re cyclers and buy an Ercoupe. I know THEY will loop because there was a guy that did an airshow routine with one.
I may have done my 1st loop cold turkey and solo back in 1960 in my Champ, but I managed to pick up some instruction since. It was in fact legal then and now. And as I said: my later Luscombe was APPROVED specificly for loops, barrel rolls, Immelmans, spins,Cuban 8's, and snap rolls-on-top-of-loop. There were even more. Entry speeds were provided. Said this in the FM supplement by the Larson Luscombe Corp. She was certified in the Utility catagory in 1946. I will not now be outflown by a 60 year old antique.
Guess what it boils down to is I never invent FARs that I may or may not be busting. I spent the last quarter century with the FAA safety inspectors looking over my shoulder. They rode with me on six month checks, checked my paper work, showed up at the sim, etc and even helped out on some operational matters. Two of them were once my co-pilots. Don't be gun shy around these guys. They may be XXXX's in Canada, but not here. After one route check, one gave me a recruiting package.
This weird FAR interpretation in many areas started showing up about 15 years ago. I have heard some bizzare reads on FAR's. Is this comming from new CFI's? Remember, in each FAR, there is a clue in it to legally do your flight. On the other hand, if read wrong, you would always stay on the ground. If you blindly follow FARs in detail, you will be safe only most of the time. Gotta use that muscle between the ears for the rest.
