I'll be helping a local builder to attach his wings this weekend on his RV-10. He asked a few questions I figured most of you flying would know.
Pascal
I was wondering if I could get some suggestions about
attaching the wings.
How many people does it take?
How many hours?
Any special secrets regarding the bolts etc.???

2 people could manage, but 3 would be great.
With 3 people, just to slip them in, figure 20 minutes...it's
easy. To drill the rear spar you're still not talking a lot
of time.
No big secrets with the bolts. I used hardware store bolts
for the temporary fitting, with the threaded section ground
off to prevent scraping, and used the large bolts that came
with my QB Fuse wing center section too....that way my real
bolts were saved for the real full install. Grease the bolts
up before sliding them in.
The whole job on an RV-10 is pretty easy.

It can be done with 2 people probably, but it would be best to have 3 or 4. You should be able to hang both wings to the point of being able to “let go” in about 15-20 minutes each if that. For the bolts, you could put them in the freezer to cool down (and maybe shrink a little) ahead of time, although I don’t know if that really makes a difference. Just grease the bolts with some kind of lithium grease and slide/drive them in. I would recommend using a hardware store bold with the threads ground down in two of the small holes to line everything up, then run the final bolts through while someone “wiggles” the outboard end of the wing. Then, before putting on the nuts, make sure to clean any grease off the threads with something like Acetone to make sure it comes off.
