Thanks,

Ed

He's not kidding. I glimpsed his wheel pant mock-ups last time I was at AUN
and now live in constant fear...

Any sign of my cylinders yet from Lycon Gary?

Not that I'm trying to rush you. I have too much to live for with a wife
and dog now;)

James, did you buy the A36 Bonanza yet? How did the prebuy come out?

Hi Jamey, I got the cylinders and I've started removing everything to replace
them. Ken charged, I think it was, $200 for the use of that cylinder. Or,
something less.

You couldn't convince him we were testing it for him;)

Seriously, that's great news and very gentlemanly of him.

Please let me (and Dan) know how the guts look.

What do you think about my question about cutting open the filter and
straining the oil when we drain it to make extra sure no valve bits got by
the piston? Is it worth it or are the clean cylinder walls and unmarred
piston rings evidence enough?

I hope you had a good weekend.

Cheers,

Jamey

I think you have a much great chance of finding pieces in your muffler. If
they were small, they went on through. I will cut open your filter. I
don't expect to see anything.

Cool, thanks. Over on the GG they're discussing splitting the original
lower cowl at the bottom center rivet line and putting in a new doubler with
riv-nuts so that it could be removed in two pieces. I attempted to point
them your way if they were looking to upgrade:)

Thanks jamey. Tell them I've also split about 6 cowlings down the middle
using the same, or similar technique that Cliff Hanson uses.

I'd split yours, but, someone has riveted a hughe doubler to it.

Also, your engine mount needs to come off and be stripped and repainted.
It's pretty badly corroded and rusty in many places. Time to sell.

Yeah, James, we all want to know about your Bonanza. Isn't this the
list server that so proudly proclaims it only deals in relevant
information? And, isn't Grumman the name of the list? Sounds like
the B guys are on the wrong list!!

Scott,
Despite Cliff's email he's one of the most knowledgeable Grumman folks
you'll have the privilege of finding which you should know from reading this
list or Grumman-Gang. Chiding he and I like children will get you nowhere.
Yes, he should have posted his inquiry to me off list but you'll note I
consciously replied to him off list for the reasons you cite. Welcome to an
imperfect world. One of the advantages of Team-Grumman over Grumman-Gang is
that there is no list Nazi to prevent us from discussing interesting
tangential issues (not that my A36 purchase qualifies).

Jamey,

No question, Cliff is knowledgeable, as can be seen from his writings.

I am not questioning his competence.

Quote:

would I note that if it was off list?

I did not mean to be "chiding... like children." And, I am not
trying to get anywhere. (I am at a point in life where I don't need
to get anywhere.) It has just seemed to me from reading on these
lists that there are standards for some that others seem to discount
but chide, [Gee, I really like that word Smile], others for
trespassing. Not necessarily you. And I have read numerous comments
on the Team-Grumman list directing readers to the GG list for
irrelevant commentary that they won't find on the Team-Grumman list.
Poppycock!! And, there are Nazis everywhere. I read both lists for my
own personal interests and delete what is not relevant to me. But
there are frequent comments from the gurus to the effect, "I've
written about this before, look it up in the archives." How helpful
is that? If I were in the business, I would send the interested party
something I had written from 'MY' archives with a phone number and
email address to follow up if their questions were not answered. But
then, I'm customer-service oriented. Didn't mean to ruffle any
feathers of any particular bird, Grumman or other. And, truly, best
wishes and good luck with the Bonanza.

BTW, I am using a new, unfamiliar MAC for this communication and
would like to know if my emails are formatted ok. Reply off-list if not.

Scott,
No question, emails lists are mixed bag and I'd rather we police our own
standards of reasonable use than have someone else do it for us. I still
read and benefit from the Grumman-Gang and respect very highly the opinions
of many of it's posters. I admit the long-winded flap flap is growing old
but better that people care then not:) I did't think you were questioning
Cliff's competance and I certainly don't intend that people should post
anything and everything as long as they meet other criteria. I think Cliff
was genuinely interested in my progress and just forgot how he was replying.
My only point was that I thought you were being a little hard on him (and
me) for that triviality. I actually have had some issue with this on the
Beech-Owners list where I'm used to GG where a reply is to the sender and a
reply-all is to the gang + sender but here and on the B-O list a simple
reply is to the list.

Correct, you wouldn't know for sure if I'd replied to him off list but since
you hadn't seen a reply I'd have appreciated the benefit of the doubt:)

At any rate, your email came through just fine and Gary is the man to get a
nice eyebrow from. I don't have one but only because mine has held up well
enough to not make it worth replacing to me. His product is vastly superior
to the "factory" eyebrow (sturdier, better lighting, and better looking) and
his installation would be excellent if you have the opportunity to have him
do the work.

Best regards,

Jamey
