I would like to invite all RV-10 builders who are attending Oshkosh this year to see a new advanced electrical system architecture that we have been developing over the last couple of years. We will have an interactive display set up at Cleaveland Aircraft Tools' booth for the entire show this year.

The overall system includes:

An Electrical System Fuel Gauge (Tells you how many minutes of battery life you have left after losing an alternator)

Alternator Over-Voltage Protection

Solid State Switching (No Relays)

Solid State Circuit Breakers (No Fuses or Mechanical Breakers)

Low Voltage Warning

No Voltage Transients During Starting (Go ahead and start with your electronics on)

Electrical System Fault Detection and Warning System

Usable Battery Power is Increased by 10% or More

Smart Alternator Regulator that Increases Battery Life and Reduces Alternator Load

Smart Alternator Protects Alternator from Over Temperature

Supports Internally and Externally Regulated Alternators as well as Our Smart Regulator

System Can be Scaled for the needs of Simple VFR to Complex IFR

I will be at the show all week to introduce the system to you and to get your feedback. We are currently in the process of solidifying the design so your input and comments are greatly appreciated at this point.

I will be spending some time at the "RV-10 HQ" so grab me and I'll tell you more about this very cool system.

See you there.

I love to hear about all of these new upstart products. I'm curious, how do you plan on computing the number of minutes left on the battery? As a EE (although not a battery guy by any means) I know that this isn't an easy thing to accurately predict, unless the exact specifications about the battery are known. How do you plan to account for different battery types?

Eric,

We have designed the system to work specifically with the Odyssey PC680 and PC925MJ. These are the most popular batteries used in the experimental market and by requiring their use we were able to design the system to be as accurate as possible. We also will require the builder to perform a battery test with a specific type of battery draw-down discharge unit suplied in the kit to accurately establish the individual battery's performance. This device will also be used during your yearly inspection to ensure that the battery performance is noted by the system.

We have just finished uploading a majority of our information on this product onto our website. www.smartaircraftsystems.com

Please go there and have a look.
