I just talked to Todd at GRT and we discussed the new stuff that will be
announced at S'n'F.

What they have coming up is EFIS Sport + Engine monitor and moving map for
$5,800 - this is a two-screen setup. The engine monitor/moving map will
have a GPS built in, so as he says, you won't need another GPS in the panel.
XM weather is a $1,500 option.

Later in the year, they'll start selling their own autopilot servos ($800
for lateral and $850 for vertical) that will be driven directly from the
EFIS Sport. If purchasing servos from them, A/P functionality on the EFIS
will be included in this price. Another option for those who can't wait for
GRT servos is to buy them from TruTrack, but in that case you'd have to pay
another $400 to enable a/p functionality in the EFIS. With TruTrack servos,
he can only do single-axis (lateral) as they do their alt hold differently.

Interesting development. I doubt I'll settle for less than the full EFIS functionality (vs. the Sport) but the GRT A/P servo pricing is attractive, to say the least. I think this does not bode well for GRT to ever implement support for the wonderful Trio A/P and Alt Hold I decided to buy this past year (even knowing there might never be full compatibility). I can't see why GRT would continue any software development work toward compatibility with a competitor's (Trio) servos now. I was hoping they would develop backward compatibility with Trio within the year, to allow a "coupled approach." That said, there's a serious problem if an IFR pilot can't fly an approach with non-coupled A/P help, or without any A/P at all (so says the man who's never done any instrument flying that he'll admit to in a public forum Wink

This is one more reason why I have got to be there in Lakeland this year.
