Famous last words. To me anything electrical that you dont push into a
socket and switch it on , is complicated.. However my ex partner in the
Eurostar builds his own model railway stuff and has a little workshop.
Time to call in a favour I think.

Thank you and thank you to the several list members who have given me
 advice. Thanks everybody

xls is Microsoft Excel, part of MS Office. If you don't have that then the
free software OpenOffice (http://openoffice.org) will do it.

I finished my Kolb Firestar rework last night and have a question. My W&B is at 33% and the manual says it needs to be at 20 to 37%. My question is what are you guys getting for W&B and being slightly tail heavy has anyone had any issues? I would rather have it a little tail heavy as I can lean forward to get out of any strange situations. When I had the Luscombe I was amazed at how things changed on the plane when I just leaned forward a little. I will be calling for the inspection this PM. I was happy with my weight, I turned out to be 359 with full fuel and an electrical system w battery. It is still a pull start though. That is another thing as the fuel is burned off my W&B will change. I guess I will do a W&B with the tank empty tonight. If anyone is interested I can post the W&B. Let me know. I also installed a IVO 2 blade prop. I can't believe how much smoother it runs over the old wood prop that was on it.

  Thanks
  Jeff Nelson

				Jeff,

I get the impression from your post that you are talking about your CG without you, the pilot, sitting in the airplane. If I am interpreting your post incorrectly, sorry.

However, if I'm interpreting it correctly, please note the following:

The acceptable CG range is meaningful only with the aircraft loaded (you and fuel and gizmos you carry) and in flight stance, not tail on the ground. You should be interested in the CG location with you in the airplane and full fuel but also with you in the airplane and minimum fuel, since you will use the fuel in flight. Your aircraft empty weight(no fuel) and CG location in flight stance is needed so you can calculate what various loading (different pilot weights) will do to the CG in flight. Your empty weight CG location does not have to be within the acceptable range, in fact rarely will be in a Kolb.

I hope this clarifies the meaning and significance of the acceptable CG range numbers.

Sorry yes I did include myself in the percentage calculation with full fuel
and all the gizmo's and the empty weight I had included 5 gal of fuel so
with me and everything the full weight is at 565 and my understanding from
the paperwork I have this is within the gross weight. I was just asking is
where are other people at for their CG. As you know this is a big part of
the certification process and needs to be right.

 Thanks
 Jeff

				Thom,
my FS 2 was at the aft end of the cg range also.probably because of a lot of paint including silver, white then aerothane which added at least 30 lbs to the plane plus at 170 (my wgt.) needed 10 bag of lead shot in the nose.It will feel a lot more stable if it's a little forward than aft.Throw some tire weight lead in a bag and try it out.I also raised the horizontal leading edge 3/4 of an inch with brackets to trim it out better.
          Been there,G.Aman FS2

For anyone that is interested.... I have redone my W&B spreadsheet in word
perfect 8 ,,, note that the spreadsheet will not calculate.... it is only
useful to show you what entries to put in the cells of your spreadsheet
 program....

Also converted it to asci text,,, I did not line up the columns as well as
I should have but it will let you know what to put into the cells of your
spreadsheet program.... for ease of meaning I put the additions in long
hand instead of using an (at)sum function...

If you would like I could forward the spread sheet in
 quarto pro
 excel
 dbase
 123
 Paradox

I don't know how they will convert in other than the quarto pro and excel
 programs.
Dbase 123 and paradox,,,,, you will be on your own. Also if you have
special requirements,,,, I can output in different versions of the listed
 software.

 Do not archive.
