Bought an OLD wing kit for my RV-4 recently. The lightening holes need
to be cut out on the ribs. Does anybody have a pet method for
accurately finding the center of the cutout...I will be using a fly
cutter to do the cutting job.

Just make sure when using the fly cutter that the cutting edge of the fly cutter is right on the edge of the circle being cut out. There's no exact science to finding the middle of the circle. By trial and error and with a little patience finding the center of each circle is not really difficult. Put the fly cutter in your drill press and then start by checking at each 90 degree location. If it looks good and your satisfied then go ahead and make your cut. You just need to be brave and go for it. You don't need to be perfect but try for just a little under the maximum hole diameter. Remember, you have a lot of holes to cut and I would start by cutting all the large holes first and work your way through all the ribs. Then go to the next size smaller hole and continue until all those holes are done and then go to the smallest holes and cut them. It will take a couple of nights to complete all the lighting holes but eventually you will finish. Then you have to use a scotch brite pad and polish all the cut edges until there are no rough spots. They should be smooth as a babys bottom. Then prime as soon as you can using your favorite primer. Good luck.
