RV-10 list,
On my RV-10 nose wheel I'm finding that the valve stem (with the valve
stem cover off) misses the nose wheel fork by only 1/8". If the valve
stem cover is on, the valve stem cover hits the nose wheel fork when the
wheel is rotated. Is this what others are seeing?

We are building 2 RV-10's, both have the same issue. I have not had
chance to figure it all out.... It seems like the valve stem is way too
long

There isn't enough clearance for me when I install my front tire valve stem cover either. I was planning using a plastic cover from my car tires, but I just went out to try that and that gives about 0.01" clearance on the fork.

Tim,
I do not know if this makes a difference, but perhaps you should test the
valve stem clearence in turns and such when the tire is less inflated and
with different weight on the wheel.
If the clearence is that small, some of the above factors may make a major
difference and tear the stem off.
Then you would be like the Airbus landing in Los Angeles with the stuck
front gear.
Just thinking out loud.
On another two notes.
Did anyone find a fantastic hole deburring tool. I find that I am putting
my body into some very strange positions to use the hand hole deburrer. I
woke up with a very sore back and one leg longer then the other. I can't
believe no one sells a tool specifically for this. A battery opporated
device, small in both legth and diameter, like a thick permanent marker.
My right angle drill at low RPM still chatters slightly and the holes are
not as clean as the manual tool.
Item two:
What should one look to spend on a rebuilt IO- 540. and how much to spend on
a set of pipes for the engine. Does the plane need to go to the pipe
manufacturer or do they have patterns for our cowling.

Just checked mine tonight for you. I never really noticed it
before, but with the cap on, mine has very little (1/16" or
maybe 1/8" if I'm real lucky) clearance when it turns.
Haven't had a problem, but yeah, it sure is close.

John,
I use a cordless screwdriver with the deburring bit from Avery to deburr
large volumes of parts. It tuns as slow or slower than a hand operated
de-burring tool and they come out lovely. I think its an Ozito brand
AUS$17 from a hardware store here downunder.
