Not to be outdone by our neighbors to the north, (smile) I took the
ol' 'fox out today for her first flight of the new year. I had to dig
out of 14" of snow drifts in front of the hangar to get the doors
open, and then dug three trenches for the skis/wheels and tailwheel
to exit the hangar. Taxiing was not too bad, but takeoff was a bit
slow and long. There was about 7" of new snow overnight, and drifting
was prevalent. It finally got off, had a nice little flight and
returned without a problem. Nice to get a snow flight in, because we
are supposed to have mid-40's by Thursday, and all this new snow will
 be gone.

BEER??? Close enough....hey, how 'bout that Michigan team, eh,
Steve? Finally won a big one.
Regarding the shoveling.....man, oh man, I'm feeling the stiffness
start to settle in to the shoveling muscles. With every shovel-full
that made today, all I could think of was "gotta get a flight in
today, so I don't waste this snow." More coming down right now, but
it won't last only a few days, so I gotta take advantage of it while
it lasts. I'm planning another flight tomorrow, so I can hone my snow-
 flying skills.
I do think it's time that I bought a snow thrower, and save the
 muscles for gripping the stick.

On a technical note, a few weeks ago I heated the overhanging
portion...that behind the framework...of my "almost nylon" ski
bottoms, and bent them up to about a 45° angle. It made a world of
difference when it came time to drag the plane back into the hangar
today. I didn't even have to use the winch...just sucked it up and
manhandled the plane back in. Those of you with skis, if you can bend
up only a couple of inches of the rear bottoms, it really helps.

Hey, Steve, did you finally get moved into that new hangar situation?

				Lynn,

My situation at Howell (OZW) is that in exchange fo my A&P services maintaining a T-6 and a brand new CubCrafter Sport Cub I get a free, fully insulated hanger with a 65,000 btu heater, all to my self. In 10 minutes it's warm as toast ....and stays that way.

Now, if I could just get out of the driveway.......

Here are some links to some T-6 flying video I shot....

Nice deal! On the subject of your videos, I tried to d'load, and when
 I saw "1 hour 46 minutes remaining" I bailed....wow, that must be
some video. One of these days I may enter the 21st Century, but it
won't be today....that's why I clear my ramp with a shovel.
(But I've got a small plow for home use so maybe I'm getting there.)

Speaking of Howell (OZW), it'd be nice if they could build a taxiway
 across mid-field...that's a long way to taxi in a Kitfox. : )

Sorry about the vids. I thought I was the last in the state to get hi-speed.

  |
The Master Plan for Howell will eventually put the terminal building and fuel farm on the opposite side of the field where the new hangers are now located. Midway turn offs should be put into place at that time. That is why it is such a mess right now. Work in progress and all that...
I know what you mean about the taxi distance. Never land on the thresholds cuz you will still have about a 1/2 mile (it seems) to the first (only) available turnoffs. And if you land past them you're looking at a very long trip around the entire perimeter just to get back.
One good thing though, besides the free hanger......the airport clears the snow for ya. (ha ha)
    Enjoy your next flight.

I downloaded both movies in under 10 mins. Your server is slower than my connection or I would have had them in about 3 mins.
 Good flicks thanks

I enjoy reading these winter flying adventures and it has gotten me to thinking about building some skis. Our local airport is not ski friendly however so I'll probably wait until I find a hay field or such to use.

Here's a couple pictures winter kitfox flying in Central Washington. For those new to Kitfoxes, the blue line on the windshield is to line up on the centerline when landing, I'm a new kitfox pilot. The hole in the cowl is my windshield defroster, an advantage of the 503 Rotax
