Thanks for doing the digging, Deke. Although the tax rule doesn't specifically say so, one must assume this applies to Fla. residents who purchase an aircraft, whether in state or out and bring it in. And given what was brought to light between SNF and Ed. in chief of ANN, the facts may have been skewed somewhat, to say the least. I feel a little foolish for even considering it, although, when it comes to Taxes and the Government, anything's possible. 'nuff said.

FL has some weird taxes. I recall a friend who was a snowbird from up here in MI and wanted to drive down to FL, sell his car, then fly back. He found out that FL charges a hefty tax for this to dissuade bringing in out of state cars to sell to the locals. I can't recall the details, but he ended up flying both ways and renting while there. He said it was cheaper and was able to drive a nearly brand new car.

Maine has a similar tax program on newly purchased aircraft that has raised a lot of the same issues the Florida law has generated. The $30,000 mentioned referred to a $450,000 aircraft purchase price. I've heard this from a number of sources, not just ANN.
