It is to me - and that is the most definitive statement I can make. I fly the #2 slot with Falcon Flight & needed the power and control. I find the fuel burn slightly lower at 65% or less at 9000 to 13000 density altitude - about 7.5 to 8.4 GPH - electronic (Electoair) ignition really helps here; I have had it on for 1500 hours. Attached is my home made (but reasonably accurate) performance chart. The "Pwr(at) 2300 RPM" is the MP + 23 = the value shown. Climb is enhanced & the C/S prop really is an excellent speed brake when you need it.

Well, that's good new, Bill. I was kind of bummed 'cause I had all the holes drilled and dimpled already for the front location.

So what can you say about the performance of the 320/FP vs. 360/CS on the exact same RV-4? That's definitely an "all things being equal" example. I'm very curious to hear if all the extra who-ha is worth it (oh, and the extra $20k...)

Matt - I replace an 0-320 & F/P wooden prop with an 0-360 & Hartzell C/S. On advise of Van's, I left the battery where it was & find the CG is fine - mine is 67.16 aft of datum (at) 1030 Lbs. empty. Originally it was 70.03 (at) 916 Lbs. with the 0-320 & F/P prop. N252MD, 2160 hours.

The options have changed quite a bit since I started the project, and the latest iteration has a 180HP and a Hartzell CS prop. I had already mounted the battery in the normal spot up by the firewall between the pilot's legs. With all the extra weight up front, I'm sure I'll have to relocate the battery behind the cabin somewhere. Of note, however, is that I have electric trim installed in the Elevator, and the full-swivel tailwheel fork, both of which add some weight to the far aft location.

I would appreciate some feedback on selecting an exacting location for the battery given my situation. Also, what gauge battery cables to use given the remote location.

Its great to be back on the project; I'm looking forward to getting back into the discussions on the List!

Thanks for the help!
