I hope to be out at Goose Creek later in the afternoon. I need to change my
tires on my RV-4 and don't have a clue as how to jack the thing up off the
ground to take the wheels off. If your really bored and want to stop by...
come on over! I won't be out there till probably sometime after 2pm.

Ron I'll be there tomorrow with instructions how to remove tires. Also use Bill's jack it is safer, unless you want to take the cowl off. Also the method you are thinking of may spin the a/c around.

Ron, I have a clamp that you clamp to the lower leg (near the brake) and
then use a car jack to lift the axle. Got both out at the Hanger. But the
screw jack of Bill's might be easier.

Ron, the clamp is in my tool bag in the aircraft, behind the pilot seat
back. Its a "U" bolt with a piece of Green Angle iron. The "U" bolt has
two nuts on each leg, big nuts are oversized and are simply spacers. Take
nuts off, put "U" bolt around gear leg as close as you can get it to the
brake caliper mount. Put the legs of the "U" bolts through the holes in the
angle iron. Tighten it down Good. The take the car jack and slip it under
the angle iron, jack up the angle iron and gear. If you are going to have
the wheel off a while I would put a block of wood under the axle.
Car jack is beside the storage cabinet.
Remember you will have to disassembly your brake caliper - otherwise the
rotor will keep you from pulling the wheel off after you remove the axle
nut.

It picks up at the axle. Real neat and small to carry in plane.

Hey Ron,
Do not use the engine mount ring to lift the your plane. I have heard of
this breaking the engine case. Note: this ring is to lift the engine only!

I was thinking of hooking the chain up to the engine mount itself and
pulling up only on one side at a time, but will try Ed's clampy thing, and
if that doesn't work I will see if I can use the one Eddie mentioned.
