Gary,

I know this isn't Grumman related, but is the propulsion concept for the
XOV in this article doable with today's technology?

http://www.aviationnow.com/avnow/news/channel_awst_story.jsp?id=news/030606p1.xml

Thanks.

Dunno. I guess I was hoping for the rumored "Aurora" to be more like
Bill Sweetman's concept. Single Stage to Sub-Orbit. Powered by a methane
slurry type fuel.

In the early 90's there was a series of tests done over Edwards where the
plane was flying in the high Mach numbers. After about 6 events, the press
started to ask a lot of questions and the testing went away. That, my friend, is
all I can say.

Well, honestly, a little of both. I worked a few black programs over the
years. I've been out of it for almost 9 years now. Do I miss it???? Not at
all.

Linn,

Could be!! My son, a Force Recon Marine, has never told me what he does
in........... the Middle East. However, while my wife and I were
visiting him at Camp Pendleton last spring, one of his friends joked
that they were the real Jack Bauers.
Gary,

Interesting. High Mach like Mach 6?

Are we talking about the infamous 'donuts on a rope' sightings in the mid
90's. Yup, thats "aurora". Powered by four or six Pulse Detonation Wave Engines
(PDWEs), fuelled with liquid methane. As air breathers, these PDWEs could
theoretically propel a hypersonic aircraft towards Mach 10 at an altitude in
excess of 180,000 feet!!! On a flight back to KJFK from KLAX I saw something
SCREAM across my right window. Im talking fast guys and gals.

Anyway, not really Grumman related. Maybe if Gary strapped one of those
PDWE's onto a tiger then we would have something to talk about.
