I've had two off-field landings, (and one really bad landing) in two different aircraft.  In all three cases the wings were removed and the airplane trailered home.

That's one reason.

The other reason is the ability to separate electrical areas for troubleshooting.

The expense isn't much in the scheme of things, nor is the labor.  It'll sure make things easier if you have to re-visit the decision to run one long wire from the source to the load.

IMHO, making the electrical system modular just makes sense.

Thanks for the responses on this guys.  I have never had an off field landing (touch wood), so had not considered the need to remove the wings for recovery.  The positive feedback on wing installation and removal has also been very helpful.

One of the down sides I had considered wrt connectors at the root was actual placement of the connectors themselves.  If they are at the most inboard rib ala Randy De B', I was concerned about moisture ingress and other crud that could compromise the connection.  After further thought, I am leaning towards installing a junction box somewhere in the fuse adjacent the wing root (maybe on the F1016L/R rib).  This keeps the BNCs and DC connectors to the wings out of harms way (maybe more reliable) and offers the advantages of modular design/quick disconnect previously indicated.  Any feedback on this approach would also be appreciated.

cheers,
Ron
