I got a few straw blue sharpie marks on my wingtip lens. Tested various solvents on a scrap piece to see if they would take the marks off without dulling the surface of the plastic, and confirmed that MEK, Laquer thinner, and Acetone all damage the plastic. WD-40 is ok, but doesn't take the marks off Sad. Anybody know of a safe solvent?

Thanks in advance,

Try alcohol. I use it to take sharpie markings off of laminated maps.
It may work without damaging your lens.

Sounds like time to get artistic and turn those marks into a design or
drawing and make it look like you meant to do it. Actually, have you tried
409 or something like that. We use thinner down here in Ecuador for
everything. Maybe trying a different type of thinner would help.

How about buffing it with a plastic polishing wheel?

Page 2 and 84 of the attached document. Kerosene or Isopropyl Alcohol.
Nothing else. Crazing can begin more than a year later when the solvent
has chemically stripped key components from the acrylic. Poorly
educated Line Boys can inadvertently wipe with Windex and set the
consequence in motion. Best answer, clear, plain de-ionized water and
lots of it.

Not that I'd recommend doing this to fix the blue sharpie problem,
but I found that I had left my lenses in the garage while painting
other parts. They had a dusting of overspray on them. I had in
the past on my old plane used the "Scratch off" kit to remove
windshield scratches, and it worked great, so I used it again
and polished my lenses and got rid of the overspray. I also have
a tiny bit of overspray on a couple windows that leaked through
tape that must not have been tight enough, so before SNF I'll
be using it on my new windows.

Just thought I'd pass that on so you know it works and if anyone
gets any scratches on their windows it's a great product.

Try lighter fluid, works on canopies pretty well. Also, you can use
Novus.
