Lady's & Gentlemen,
This morning at 10:00 am FedEx left with us the first and only 3 forged 4340 Corvair crankshafts in existence that we aware of. Today is a day that will go down in Corvair-powered aircraft history as these are one of the most important developments for our engines. We are very excited about their long awaited arrival and we are, so far, very pleased with the results. More information and pictures are forthcoming this week.
For inquiring minds, as measured this morning, the main bearing journal radii are .125", and the rod bearing journals radii are .100".

Is there a particular model of Corvair engine I should be looking for? (for use in a 750)
A Corvair just came up for sale along my daily commute route for $1000/obo and I am thinking about making an offer...

Dave,
That depends on several details.
What HP range are you after?
What are you going to fly it in?
A 750 I assume 
Do you have William Wynne's Corvair manual?
He goes into detail about what to look for in a core engine.
1965 - 69 110 HP no smog or turbo engines will get you most of the way.
With this you will have most of the parts you will need to rebuild.
If you are seriously considering a Corvair you should Buy his manual.
It's full of info and is a fairly good read.
It goes into engine mount details as well as all the engine related stuff.
You don't need to buy a whole car Just the engine.
Core engines are only worth about $200 if you can find one that turns.
Later models are preferable.
Earlier models are ok too but there is more work involved.
If you have trouble finding one in your area, let me know I have 20 or so.

Converting Corvair Engines for Experimental Aircraft Manual The Corvair Flight Engine Conversion Manual by William Wynne, Part No. M-1, is the recognized bible of Corvair conversions. The Manual guides you through selection and purchase of core motors, which are readily available, to engine conversion, installation and engine systems. The 2005 edition contains three times more information than prior editions, as well as many photos, drawings and graphs.
