Just wondering has there been reports of the newer Van's Al spacers spinning? Just finished installing nose wheel per plans.
Thanks

Chris,
A fellow who has a '10 at my home airport has had constant problems with
his seals being damaged by the new aluminum spacers. He has been quite
frustrated.

If you install them and torque them I was under the impression it will still gall the bearing, the spacer needs to be staked or secured against rotation from all I've read.

Rick, the main issue is not allowing the big aluminum axle from tightening
down between the forks. the axle spacers and hub/bearing assembly should
measure several thou longer than the main axle itself. according to ken at
vans, when torqued down the load should be between the forks and bearing,
basically the axle should float a bit between the forks. if the axle was
left short then the preload on the bearing and spacer collar would prevent
it from spinning.
I took the same idea and simply made the contact surface area against
the fork larger. instead of a collar against the fork I use the full surface
area of an end cap design. I cut the axles to be 1/16 shorter than the sum
of the rest of the parts insuring proper bearing preload.
with the end cap design, it can also be pinned easily to the fork for
anti rotation if the builder so requires.... (during my testing of the
design I took 12" channel locks and could not spin the end caps, so I don’t
think pinning will be necessary, but the option is there)
