Gang,
We are gaining a fair amount of experience with these items as all our
projects have glass something or other in them.
First with regards to the magnatometer. in the CJ we mount it where the
remote gyro compass mounted. In most CJs you actually have a choice,
either in the tail or in the wing. Both will work well depending on the
manufacturers instructions. Remember you have to shim the unit to get it
exactly level, but with the structure already built into the airplane that
has been plumbed, a lot of the work is already done for you.
OAT probes. Actually a slick place to mount it is in the rear of the nose
gear well. It works very well there, doesn't get dirty, is out of the
exhaust path, and is out of sight.
As an aside, I'm thinking of redoing the front panel in my airplane and
making it one piece. The stock configuration is a challenge to put the
EFIS stuff in and lay it out nicely. With the new Garmin 696 out you can
now have a high quality full glass panel for right about $10K.
Amazing....
Regards,
Barry
