"A" series Continental C specifically the A-80 engine.

My father overhauled a Continental A-80 engine for me and he passed away shortly after. All the major components went of to be scrutinized and refurbed. The case went to DIVCO C the accessory caes to Drake C the rods and crankshaft to AEA in Dallas. The cylinders were re-done and are Cerminil C having all new valves C etc. This engine also has a brand new camshaft. I have all the receipts and yellow tags. My repair bill came to about $6 C600 for this engine (I bought it form a scoundrel who advertised it having 5 SMOH) and the engine was basically shot (long story made short.

My father was a commercial pilot and an A&P C and I am thinking about selling this engine after basically deciding to abandon plans of finishing a project airplane.

A friend told me he "thinks" a couple of the rods are installed wrong C but I don't think so. My father was fastidious and a stickler for details. The Continental Overhaul Manual states "the numbers on the rods (meaning the casting numbers) go up as the rods are being assembled on the engine.

The crankshaft was bolted flange-down to a overhaul table C and all the numbers were indeed going up. We placed the crankshaft horizontal on a device my dad made that allowed the crankshaft to rotate as the  rods were assembled to the crankshaft. The horizontal "rotiserie" so to speak had leather straps from a wide belt C soaked in oil so the crank could easily be turned and not maring the surface of the journals.

Can anybody on this list look at the attached picture and advise if the rod caps are all supposed have the oil hole going the same direction?  As anyone who has rebuilt the "A" series engine knows C the rod bearings have a notch in them C so that they can't be installed incorrectly.

I have a video on YouTube showing the steps (I have it "parked" in the private mode at the moment) but if my attached picture indeed suggests that two of my rods are installed wrong C I'd certainly not want to mis-represent this engine (as it was to me) if I finally decide to part with it.

Thanks C
Roy
