Couldn't sleep and stumbled onto this exciting news from yesterday. Todd Swezey's Vesta V-8 LS2 powered RV-10 took to safe flight in Georgia.
Congrats to another Alt Engine.

I think that's maybe a first since Dan's. Is there any news on
the Subies yet? It's been over a year since Dan's crash and
at that time it sounded like there were quite a few that were
"just around the corner"...but there hasn't been any news that
I've heard since 2007. I'd have bet that the Subies would beat
the V-8's into the air, but it doesn't look like that's the
case. Will be nice to hear some flight reports once they
spend some time getting good calibrated numbers.

The funny thing is that the V8's seem to be less complicated to convert to our use. I guess there are enough off the shelf aftermarket components and excess HP in the small blocks to do the job. I have to say I was fairly impressed by the V8 I saw run at OSH.

Tim et al. notice today from Eggenfellner that the counterweights for the
4-bladed RV-10 props won't be delivered from Italy (Quinti) until late
January. That's why things have gone quiet on the Subie front.
In the mean time I've actually abandoned the Subaru idea (anyone want a
Subaru E-6T FWF?) in favor of a Chevy LS1 package built by Bud Warren
(Geareddrives). He performs his magic everyday in the same hangar I'm in,
so for that reason and others, it just made a lot of sense to switch to his
package. The package is simple, yet impressive and Bud is a real pleasure
to work with. Pictures will be posted on the Geareddrives website shortly
and flight reports will be forthcoming once we fly. We've had it running at
idle speeds for checkout and it just purrs. This weekend we will run it up
to higher power settings. If the Lord is willing and the creek doesn't
rise, we should be at Sun N Fun '09.

We are planning on having our Geared Drives LS1 installed next summer
and to have it into the air in the early spring of '10.
