I am still working on rebuilding my KF II and am starting to think about the engine I will need. The old Rotax 532 that was on it suffered a severe prop strike, and given the problems with 532 crankshafts, plus uncertainty over the number of hours actually on the engine, I have decided to look for alternatives. I wondered if anyone has had experience with the AeroVee conversion. It is heavier than the Rotax, with a dry weight of 161 lbs, and so, given that the original installation was on the order of 130lbs, I would add at least 30-40 lbs to the empty weight, and will have to do some homework on a new weight and balance calculation to see if it is even doable. The useful payload would also be reduced. However, the price is attractive, and the 80 HP rating is also attractive. Fuel burn should not be too bad with a light aircraft like the Kitfox II.
Can anyone help with info?
