Lynn, if it's any help, there is a guy named Steve Zell here in Michigan who
made up a directory of private airstrips in Michigan. He spent a lot of
time, gas, and long distance phone calls developing it and it's available
from him at the address below. From the amount of work he has into it, I
doubt he did it for the money. Just tell him I sent you.

Beat you to it, Deke.... I bought one after he came to our EAA
chapter meeting telling of his work to "build" the directory. I carry
it with me in the plane. I've already landed at some of the private
strips listed, including yours as you know...again sometime soon, I
hope. I still wanna get over to Lost Creek...that sounds like a fun
place to go to, but it'll have to be after the ground stabilizes.

Lost Creek at Luzerne is probably fine as it's sandy, high and dry. Give me
some notice before you come up and I'll ensure the restaurant is open. Mio
is also a good one with the eatery right at the airport.

Lost Creek has the best "bar burger" that I've had. I thought that they were closed, but it would be great if they are still in business.

Mio is where I bought my Kitfox. A friend of mine has a T-craft like mine at MIO and told me about the Kitfox. It is a nice place to stop to grab some chow. I am always impressed with their breakfasts. A group of us fly over there from Houghton Lake for breakfast a couple times a year.

Just a side note of not much importance, the Lost Creek Lodge is also where
the Duval brothers used to hang out with their low life cronies. For those
of you who don't know who they are, they're the guys who killed a couple of
Detroit area hunters and supposedly fed them to the pigs, but that part
wasn't proven. It was a cold case file that was finally solved 18 years
later. The place used to be called Linkers.
Lost Creek is notorious for having great food too, especially their omelets.
If they aren't open, Mio airport is only about 5 minutes away and their
 restaurant is always open.

Sounds like a plan, Marco. And with this Northstar F210, doggin' it
is becoming fun, lookin' at the fuel usage numbers fall. Looks like
about 80 statute miles from Evart to Lost Creek, eh? Maybe we could
talk Pete Smith...he's at Home Acres (Y91), just north of you.... and
his Peitenpol (sp?) into going along. he's the guy who told me he
flies to Oshkosh over the water at 50- 100 feet AGL, because flying
higher than that just "prolongs the agony" (if he has an engine
out)...he's a fun guy! You remember him...he was parked to my left in
 2007 at Oshkosh.

Check if the bar burgers are server with fava beans and a nice chianti...

Personally it brought to mind the slogan "It takes all kinds of critters to
make Farmer Vincent's fritters" (ibid Motel Hell, nowhere near Lost Creek of
 course...)

 definitely do not archive :-S

				Lynn,

This is terrible news, so I'm sorry to be the one to tell you.

Pete passed away a week or so ago. He was in Florida, hanger flying with the guys at the seaplane school there, and had a heart attack and died right there. His great friend, Clyde, called me the day he died and told me.

Clyde said that he was doing what he liked doing second best, hanger flying. His favorite thing was actually flying.

He wouldn't have been able to fly the pietenpol this summer anyway. Clyde called me in January and said that Pete's hanger had caved in because of the heavy snow load, and crushed the pietnpol.

He was re-building a Champ this winter in Tennessee before he went to Florida, and was expecting to go back to Home Acres in March or April.

Sorry to pass on this bad news.

At first I didn't know which Pete you meant, then it hit me...Pete
Smith! My God....what a shock....he had given me his location on the
"south side of 27 in a double wide mobile home" and I had written it
on my Michigan Aeronautical Chart which I have before me, planning
the trip to Lost Creek. Jeez, what a shame. I never even got the
chance to get up there and see him. Damn, I gotta start doing these
thing before somebody else goes away, or I do!

When Pete packed up for the trip home from Osh in 2007, he showed me
how to prop a plane....I never had done this before....and then I
walked the wing past a few tents until it seemed like he was clear of
them all. But the "parking honcho" caught up with him out on the
taxiway and flagged him down, telling him that he had brushed a tent,
and he (the honcho) looked the wingtip over and declared it
undamaged, and waved him away. That week was the first time I had met
Pete, and the last time I saw Pete, complete with his leather flying
 helmet and goggles,(if I'm recalling the goggles correctly)...what a
shame....well, I guess this is to be expected when I/we get to be
 this age.

Thanks for letting me know, Louie.
