Cheers, 

	I may have made a tactical error - in running the grounding strap

from my 'forest-of-tabs'  on the firewall to an M6x16 bolt holding the

plastic ignition cover on the back of the engine. Admittedly, the bolt

threads into the ignition housing but now I'm having nervous thoughts about

the cover.

            Where did you ground your strap to the engine?

hi Ferg

I used the large threaded holes on top of the engine just behind the Vacuum pump,

These are used to lift the engine at its point of balance, If you use a good quality welding cable with swaged joints it would be a fit and forget item,,

Those points are used for the attachment of part of the prop control  

system with the Arplast prop and are hidden if the cooling shroud is  

fitted.



I used a threaded lug next to the rocker cover on the rear righthand  

(looking from the cockpit) cylinder.

I used a substantial threaded boss on the lower port side of the crank case just below and aft of the oil filter. (914 installation.)

 I know you have already looked at the Tony Bingalis "Firewall Forward and  or Knuckles AeroElectric Connection, but for others:

 Please use standard aircraft wiring procedures to secure a suitably sized  wire from the engine block to the airframe to handle engine starter grounding  amperage requirements, instrument grounding and accessories (I use a short #4  cable minimum).  No matter what, make sure the wire ring connector is  solidly in contact with the block/head of the engine.

  

 In the past I used the M6 bolt that the bracket coming off the engine  block, which holds the ignition coil boxes, however on the new Rotax  engines make that area harder to get to.

  

 My new two favorite places to make a ground contact are:  

 The engine lift points behind the gearbox or in the hole on the #4 engine  cylinder near the head bolt.

  

 They all worked fine.

  

  

 I run my main battery ground to a 5/16 stud through the firewall, and from  this point to the block, and on the inside of the firewall I run a #10 wire  to the panel/airframe for a low power panel or a #8 for a high power  panel.

I put mine at the brace that supports the ignition module. The engine case 

has a nice big flat machined area there
