Team,

I've got about 600 hours on my Yak 52 so, like most of you, I've had
wacky readings on the RPM gauge before and found a broken wire in the
cannon plug at the tach sensor. Nothing new here. Except this time I
repaired the broken wire and the gauge now runs backwards. I've never
seen that before, but I know others say it is characteristic of a
broken wire as well, so I pulled the plug off again and did a
continuity check to the rear RPM gauge. Everything checks out. Good
continuity, no dry solder joints, but the RPM gauge continues to run
backwards. Anybody got an idea what I'm missing?

Dave.

Yeah, You swapped two wires when you made the repair. It is a 3 phase
sending unit and 3 phase receiver. Swapping any two wires will cause the
phase rotation to go in the opposite direction.

George,

My tach is running backwards and my stall speed seems to be really slow. I have installed some vortex generators but they seem to be hooked up to my tach and when I go real fast they go crazy and mix up all the air and when I slow down and my tach goes slow they just leave the air alone.

Any ideas?

The propeller is mounted backwards. Turn it around and all will be
well.

Thx guys,

I think I have it figured out. I just rotated the tach so the needle is up when I give er full power. The prop thing was easy since it is turning backwards I did like you said. Rotating the prop and switching them left to right seems to have worked.

The VG interface issue is still a mystery.

The inside joke to that is about a friend of mine who said that his spinner was not trimmed enough, it was "cutting into the right blade"........he'll never live that one down....
