Hello Graham, You wrote:
1) "Sorry not a big help on the rudder cable set up.."

No problem -- just curious about how Duane accomplished that. My solution
was a bell crank terminating the rudder cables with a push rod going to a
shortened rudder horn.

2) "will have to climb in back there and check its not wearing apart though"

I created a removable inspection panel on the lower left side of the
fuselage for access to the bell crank and associated connections.

3) "My TR1 came with shortened sticks" and ".... much heavier Stick
forces....."

Even with my extended pilot's control stick the ailerons are still very
heavy -- I noticed this same thing when I flew Rich's plane prior to buying
my kit. It is a nuisance flying my plane from the copilot's seat because one
has to reach down between their thighs with the tips of their fingers to
reach the very top of the stick grip.

4) "I built in a twist lock from a telescoping painting handle"

Clever solution.

5) "with say wing-leveler engaged working the lapboard while xcountry"

I recently replaced my Navaid autopilot controller with a Trio Avionics E Z
Pilot controller (kept the Navaid servo). This was a great leap forward in
capability.

OC...
I have the Navaid wing leveler that was in the panel already .. i
have coupled it to my AVmap gps and it works fine .. also the turn the plane
by 'knob' is fun too .... realize the navaid is early gear now ...but can u
give a brief run down on how the latest say Trio unit is better ..? ( as i
have toyed with this possible upgrade too ..)

Hello Graham, You wrote:

My Navaid controller was set up to accept either VOR or GPS as a signal
input for tracking, but I could never fine tune the pots to work properly in
a tracking mode. As a wing leveler / knob steerer it was OK.

2) "but can u give a brief run down on how the latest say Trio unit is

My EZ Pilot controller is set up to only track the Garmin 430W inputs and it
tracks great. It does give me some additional GPS readouts without having to
change 430W settings.

I'd say that if your Navaid is tracking to your satisfaction there is
probably not sufficient reason to make the change over to the EZ Pilot.

PS: I have also considered adding an EZ-1 altitude hold capability, but have
not gotten really serious about it:
