The outside attaching bolts on one of my wheel pants came loose with out my knowledge and upon landing at a turf runway the vibration allowed the wheel pant to come in contact with the tire and as a result it ripped the fiberglass wheel pant off the aluminum bracket. I now have to decide if it is worth fixing, ( 2 photos attached) or if I can find another set of Allegro wheel pants here in the states, try to see if the wheel pants offered by Aircraft spruce will fit, or just forget the idea of having wheel pants. I am at a turf field, so wheel pants take a beating anyway. Any way, short of trying to get a set or just one from Fantasy Air (which may be impossible now) anyone out there have extra wheel pants for an Allegro 2000? Suggestions?

Hugh,

Personally I think I'd take it to a fiberglass repair shop. Of course you'd want a firm quote first. I've seen a huge price range in my area between different shops.

If you could find an actual Allegro wheel pant to purchase that'd be even easier, but good luck with that. It'd at least be worth calling B Bar D to see if they have one to sell you. (I've been waiting a year for a wing-tip light cover)

The Aircraft Spruce route may be more work than you really want, unless the wheel pant is nearly identical. Most likely you'd have to buy two (so they match) then do a lot of trimming and fitting on two pants, instead of just getting one repaired. And they'd both need painting.

One other possibility is if Thom Riddle still has the wheel pants that were on the Rans S6S I traded him for my Allegro. (The S6S is no longer, but the wheel pants might be sitting somewhere). Thom?

Good Luck Hugh.

Hugh, B bar D has taken over as the Fantasy Air manufacturer in North Carolina. They have many parts now for both Allegro 2000 & 2007, including the wing tip covers. I'd look at both options on your pants.

Doug's phone is Work 919-775-2224 Cell 336-202-1585

I make it part of my pre-flight inspection to check the outside wing pant bolt & shake the pant as my bolt did loosen up once.

My current project is working with Mikrotechna who made the original ASI & stall warning system to figure out how to analyze & adjust all 3 components, ASI, pressure switch, & sounding board. I'll keep you posted.

Hugh;
I have learned that Allegro LSA has perhaps more than a few sets of wheel pants. If you haven't already contacted Doug, and you're still in need, try calling him or ask for Ross. I have no idea how and whether they can or will sell them. I'm also informed that the same pants have been used since day one, and they are getting ready to make new ones, apparently from the original molds.

Jeff,
I just called Allegro LSA (Doug Hempsted and Company) and spoke to Ross. They do have some in stock and I have ordered one (the left main). I did not ask him if they were used or new. What do you mean the pants “have been used since day one”? By the way, do you hanger an Allegro 2000 at Gilliam-McConnell? We drop in at the Pik-in-Pig on Saturdays every now and then, and I noticed an Allegro 2000 in a hanger across the runway from the restaurant. Thanks for the info.
