I'm going to build via sub kits. Can anyone recommend a good order to purchase/build? In other words wings before fuselage, etc...

I started with the tail, and getting the fuselage next, then wings.
I decided to do the Fuse next because it is most work and will keep me busy longer while I save for the next kit. And of course when it's together I can sit in it and make airplane noises. Wink
A friend of mine at the airport bought the whole kit and is building in that order as well. Tail, fuse, and currently building his wings..

Hello, Dan
One thing to consider is storage space.
I am building a 601 from scratch, and space is not abundant (tail and tanks hanging from the garage ceiling, ruder and rolls of aluminum in my home office, wings hanging off the garage walls, fuse parts in a storage/pantry room...)
I started with the tail, then wings, fuselage is last: it is easier to store wings than the fuselage.

Good luck

Dan, the manual is laid out so that you build the rudder, tail, wings, then fuse.  After scratch building my 701 helping a freind build a 750 kit, that order is the way to do it. Follow the manual especially if this is your first kit build. You will find that the manual pretty much holds your hand during the rudder assembly. By the time you get to the end of the fuselage build it is a lot more general in the instructions because it assumes you have learned a lot about how things go together by that point. If you skip the wings until later then you will be missing a lot of the transition and will find the fuselage instructions a little bit frustrating.

I agree with Doug.  built 2.5 701's and did it that way.

I scratch built a 701 a long time ago----- Didn't Chris say in the manual it is easier to fit the fuselage to the wings than vise versa ???? I built fuselage last.

What's said below is very important about the "learning curve".
