				Roger,
I will change back to one of the oils you recommend, and have used the
motorcycle oils for all but the last 10 or so hours. In fact I believe
I can hear the difference when starting the engine in the valve
lifters. But I wonder why the Mobil 7500 Clean semi synthetic is on
Rotax's list if it does not have the correct additives to protect
 gears and flat lifters?

I was using MX4T synthetic, but on a couple of cross country trips I
could only get 100LL, and when I changed the oil shortly after, I
could really see the gunk building up in the oil tank. So I wanted to
go to a semi-synthetic for that occasional time when 100LL is
 unavoidable. Thanks,

 Jack

I've been using Mobil 1 7500 Clean.  It is readily available and on
the Rotax list of approved oils, and has the SL rating.  I assume
therefore that it has the right additive package.  Perhaps a rash
assumption!!!   Any comment?  Anyone else using this in a 912 UL?  I
use it in my aging Toyota Rav4 as well, and it still gets good fuel
economy at 170000 miles.  Nice to have the same oil for both.

  Hi Jack,

That Mobile 7500 Clean is a car oil and a last ditch recommendation if no other
is available. You have zero protection for your flat tappet lifter and gearbox.
There are no additives in this oil to help your engine. It is not a motorcycle
oil. Get rid of it and use one of these.
You have to use a semi synthetic for 100LL and you can use a full or semi synthetic
  for 91 Oct unleaded.
  These are all motorcycle oils.

				Hi Jack,

Nothing wrong with Mobile 1 Racing 4T with a once in a blue moon 100LL use. Rotax says less than 30% of the time constitutes 100LL use. I personally use 10% - 20% as a number and that is on that one oil change. I change oil every 50 hrs so if I travel and use 100LL for 6-8 hrs then I'm good. I use 100LL only when I travel and you should use a lead scavenger like Decalin. Using a semi synthetic 100% of the time no matter what fuel you use is good too.
If you read Rotax's SI on operating fluids it says 7500 is a number 4 choice. It says in paragraphs before that to use a motorcycle oil when available. Remember these are written for the world not just the US. All oils are not available everywhere and Rotax can not test all oils. So they will go with what has been tested and what may be available somewhere else in the world. Only motorcycle oil should ever be used in your Rotax 912. If I was stranded in the middle of nowhere and Mobile 1 7500 Clean was my only choice to get home then I would use it until I got home and could drain it. It's not death right then and there, but keep using it and good luck.

				Roger,

Just to confirm what you have recommended, and to ask a further question,
here is the only time I have had to use 100LL in my 912 UL. On a round trip
to Macon, GA from N92 (214 nm one way) I topped off my Allegro 2000 belly
tank after arriving in Macon with 10 gallons of 100 LL for the return flight
to N92. That 10 gallons was added to the remaining 4 gallons of 93 AKI Mogas
(no ethanol) remaining in the belly tank. That mixture of 10 gal 100LL and 4
gal 93 Mogas got me back (3.5 Hrs) to N92. That 3.5 hours represents 7% of
the 50 hour oil change schedule that I follow. No other 100LL has been used.
However, I could not add any scavenging product such as Decalin when I
filled the 10 gal in Macon (I did not have any). I use Mobile 1 Racing 4T
oil. I have since changed oil with a new batch of Mobil 1 Racing 4T, but
have not added any Decalin yet. Even though I did not have the Decalin in
the tank when I returned from Macon, should I add some after the fact even
though I am now back using 93 AKI Mogas (no ethanol)? What do you think?

				Hi Hugh,

It's never too late to add the Decalin for what is left in the tank and you rarely use 100LL. 100LL gets ugly when you use it on a regular basis. I wouldn't worry about one time uses or a mix of 91 and 100LL.
