Hi guys,



I'm trying to remove the muffler from a 912s to repair a crack. However, I can't get '$&(at) thing off. I've loosened the front exhaust pipes, banged, repeatedly cussed, and applied wd-40, Boeing spray lube, liquid wrench, and heat to all the so called slip joints.   Nothing wants to come loose.  Does anyone have a suggestion how to get this system apart?

This from another forum.  I have no personal experience with it, but it 

might be worth a try.



Mouse Oil is good at freeing seized exhaust pipes. I think it may be 

available from Aircraft Spruce.

Rich, You must not be all that skilled at the cussing part. I can give you some lessons if you want. What about heat? Can you get a tourch on it without melting the engine?

Thanks for the help.  I found some mice, milked them (took a lot of mice and some tiny fingers), and liberally applied their milk to the fittings.  I then beat the crap out of the exhaust stacks with something just short of a sledge hammer.  Then beat the heck out of the muffler with some incredible force, it then slid gracefully off.  The welding should be done tomorrow, then the fun of putting it together will begin.

Your advice was spot on, but I may take you up on the cussing lessons.  I may need a refresher, probably because the plane has done so well in the past.

Hi, 



I had a big problem when I changed out my 912Ul for a 912ULS in 1999.  I had 360 hours and had a difficult time getting the muffler apart.  I got it off the airplane but a couple of the headers were still stuck.  Had to use a welding torch heating it to red hot.  It took 2 of us to get it apart.  When I reassembled it used N1000 Copper_Graphite anti-seize Lubricant.  It comes apart very well.  The hardest part is getting the springs removed.
