I just checked TAF's enroute KHSP -> KLAL on Dan Chekoway's wx engine; what does "LIFR" mean? It sure pops up alot in the route description for tomorrow.

I think it means "Stormy's not going to bother packing tonight, but I'll check back in the morning in case a miracle occurred." Wink

Oh, well, sometimes the cookies crumble.

Staying tuned,

-Stormy

"what does "LIFR" mean?"

LIFR is 500 ft or less ceiling and less than 1 mile vis.

Thanks, Mike. It was a rhetorical question. You're sweet to explain it, though Wink

Like Cappy, I'm sleeping on the wx, but I'm considering myself "out" for now.

I can't really call it a "personality;" that might be a stretch Wink

I've studied the METARs/TAFs and decided to stand down. I'm concerned about LIFR enroute giving way to TSTMs by the time I'd reach SSI. Surprisingly the ground fog has mostly gone already, but the sky was red at sunrise.

Everyone must make and live with their own call in these matters, but this forecast violates my personal minimums. Hope anyone who launches has a great flight; rest assured I'll be praying for whomever that might be, from the comfort of my place Smile

Len
We've met. I was here at work in my serious mode and did not pick on
Stormy's "personality".

Hope that all have a great time. I was planning on going down, stopping at
LAL, then on to Sebring for the Sport Aviation weekend they are having,
then on to Lake Placid Sat. night to swap the RV8 for the 170. Sat. does
not look like a fun day for flying with the forecast winds. So, I have the
RV8 for another week or two. Gosh darn!!!!!!

Mike

Don't blame you Stormy. It's the forecast for GNV and JAX that are bothering me. Looks like you could get to Florida and then have to turn back and be stuck out as far as getting back home. A day or more at some Podunk Airport may not be fun.

It's still a close call.

Just got a call from Ed Anderson in Florida and the LAL event has been postponed till next week, due to weather. He is staying with the Cook's (people in charge of event)
who have made the decision to postpone. Apparently, as well as today's weather approaching LAL there is a bigger concern as to the weather in LAL on Saturday.

Anyway now we don't have to make a call on the WX. Unpack your bags and lets do it next week.

Sunday looks like a good day to fly in CLT area. Any ideas.

Here is the official statement from Laura Cook:

Cappy

RV WEEKEND POSTPONED DUE TO INCOMING BAD WEATHER. RESCHEDULED FOR RAIN DATE OF JANUARY 20/21/22 2005. PLEASE CALL 386-935-2973 WITH ANY QUESTIONS.

Unfortunately, It appears that Friday the 13th had shown its ugly side weather wise. Despite favorable projections as recently as 24 hours previous, the most recent projected weather for the Southeast, including Florida, includes a passing cold front with associated severe weather. This front is bringing severe thunderstorms, rain/hail and high wind. This front is forecast to cover NC, GA, AL and parts of North Florida by Friday afternoon. It is forecast to pass through Lakeland area 2 AM Saturday morning leaving clear, but cold and windy (gusts to 30 mph) Saturday. Additionally, there is activity in the gulf that appears will move onshore in the northern part of the state early this morning and while not severe - will bring clouds and reduced visibility making problematic any attempted flights from areas north of Florida early this morning to "beat" the main cold front.

Regretfully, we have decided to cancel the activity schedule for this weekend and revert to our "RAINDATE" OF 20, 21, 22 Jan (next weekend). Hopefully, this means that many who would not have been able to reach Lakeland this weekend due to the weather, will be able to make our rain date. Again, we truly regret the timing of this notice, but would not want to entice anyone to brave these conditions. See you next weekend.

Rats. Oh well -- Makes the decision easy. I plan to have my plane in the
paint shop starting 1/16, so I'll miss next weekend. I'll just set my
sights on SNF in April.
