Some time ago I drilled screws out in order to remove the fuel tanks
from my RV-6. My worry is that, during the cleaning and wiping of the
wings, some metal filings may have made their way into the paint job,
as I see many tiny specks on the wing, concentrated in a few patches.
Do you think whether the metal filings could possibly have planted
themselves into the paint job of the wing and, if so, how to remove them?

Thanks.

George:

It is very possible.  In your drilling the quality of the drill bit and the speed of the drill play a very important part in the quantity of heat being produced.  If there was sufficient heat the drill chips could have melted into the paint.  I would try something very easy on the paint - Try wiping the area down with Mineral Spirits.   It will not attach the paint and could wash away the chips.
