After doing an actual fit in the airplane with the 1st panel we cut, we made small adjustments to the position of the main instruments. Then we decided where to place the rest of the "stuff" that goes in an instrument panel. It took us about 2hrs to program the design before we could send it to the milling machine. After about 30 minutes the CNC machine cut the design on a piece of plexiglass. Now I will take the plexiglass panel, sit in the airplane and see how the placement works. Hopefully the placement will be close enough that we can cut the actual panel soon. I made a video of this end cut and posted it at:

Cool!  You might want to have them engrave the text onto the panel too. Then you can fill the text with paint and sand the panel to a brush look and the text looks great.

Scott, the panel will be fully engraved and powdercoated. Mike did all the panels for the NASA fleet of T-38 aircraft and it just so happens that the tan color they used works perfect for my panel. I guess I will become a NASA astronaut vicariously through the instrument panel. ;0)

I did the 2nd panel fit ysterday and will move a few things slightly for better positioning. The Avionics master is too close to the throttle/mixture, the GPS selector switch needs to be closer to the NAV equipment, the two 12vDC plugs need to go down about 1/2" to make space for the mandatory "EXPERIMENTAL" warning placard and I want to install a co-pilot pull down air vent since when I have the iPad it blocks the co-pilot air vent. I also powered up the SKYVIEW and started the configuration setup. It looks AWESOME!

I posted photos on the webpage: http://puertoricoflyer.com/glass_panel_instal.html

and providing more details on the blog: http://puertoricoflyer.com/cgi-bin/blog
