I am referencing the Skystar series 5 construction manual (final assembly, chapter X, page 15) to attempt to adapt this header tank to my model 2. My current question regards the drain plug "shielding tube and flange", which I do not possess. This looks like something I could rig, but the figure does not answer the following questions:

What is the approximate diameter of the tube?

What would be a comparable substitute for the tube? I would think PVC would be overkill, something with thinner walls would make most sense.

What could I make a "flange" out of to mate up to the tube?

What attaches the tube to the tank? Does it just float, attached only to the fabric below? Is it clamped around the (slightly tapered) plastic drain plug receptacle at the bottom of the tank?

Thanks for your help.

I made mine (for my IV with later model tank) out of a "floor flange"
of PVC. It was, as you say, overkill, so I spent a little time on the
lathe, thinning, shortening and generally making a mess of the lathe,
then attached the flange with poly-tak on the inside of the fabric.
There is also a metal flange that I saw later in the Spruce catalog
that might work...it was in the SCAT hose area, as I recall.

Lynn,

I got the hose and flange in my kit, but in those days the manual was not
updated with the instructions, so the parts were not used. The flange is
Part # 10350-5 From Aircraft Spruce. The tubing that came was a short
length of 1-1/4" radiator hose about 3 or 4 inches long to fit between the
tank and flange. As I recall the hose fit around the boss molded onto the
bottom of the tank that accommodated the drain fitting and the flange was
glued to the fabric with polytack..
