Just read that article, thanks Kevin. After reading through it,
it left me only slightly mixed. On one hand, I wouldn't mind blue
lighting, and Stein has Aviation Green overhead swivels, so that
would work fine. But, for the most part, I'd say that most pilots
of our types of planes will want night vision for outside vision
to see other traffic, so red wins there. For me personally,
I don't have the concern of having red lighting making the chart
info disappear, because I use an electronic flight bag, and use
the EFIS for lots of the info too. But if someone were to highly
rely on their VFR charts, then blue might make a nice choice.
The article did leave me feeling good with the fact that the
differences between the blues and reds wasn't really that huge
in the end...and considering I'm not using NVG's I have one less
thing to worry about there. It did go over everything in depth
though, so that was great.
Blue does cost slightly more than red when you're buying, but not
a huge significant price differential. I can't say what I'd do
if I was buying everything all over again. What would be nice is
to sit in a cockpit with both lighting colors available and see
how they look. I'm not unhappy with the red for me though.
Thanks again Kevin.

A couple of items in the article caught my eye so to speak: the red lights make for more difficult viewing for those people of the age to need reading glasses, and that the commercial planes mostly use low intensity white lighting.
