I need to finish the dash cover.  How did most of you do yours?  I have been told to use Vinyl and not leather. I guess the leather will shrink.  Did you glue directly to the aluminum or to some type of high density foam?

If you're talking about the glareshield, I've used speaker grill cloth.  It's stretchy and stays pretty tight if you just glue down the edges.

I just talked to Abby at Flightline Interiors about this 2 days ago, as she was getting ready to ship out my interior. She thinks a good quality leather (like hers naturally) will hold up fine. She also recommended using Weld Wood gel contact cement for glueing down all interior material, including headliner. She has a new double welt assembly covered in the material of your choice to trim out the door and rear windows which she is sending. I have not seen it yet, but she really likes it.

I used black vinyl and used double sided carpet tape to hold it down it 

down.

I bought Glare Shield vinyl and Glare Shield edge trim from Cleveland  Aircraft Tool. http://www.cleavelandtoolstore.com/ The  black vinyl has a dull finish which does not reflect the sun glare. I glued it  down with 3M Super 77 and finished the exposed edges (around hand holds and  defrost fan) with black Sikaflex. Pictures attached.

Abby did my interior (minus seats) and I used her new edge  trim and like everything a lot.

 I ordered 90 feet of the edge trim from Abby at $96.00  including shipping.

  

 I installed hinge covers using nutplates pop riveted to  the cabin top, before install of the headliner, to screw on the hinge covers  that I also made out of the extra headliner material.  Not shown in the  picture are hinge covers I also made to cover the door hinges as well.  The  give a pretty nice finished look and you don't have to hassle with working the  headliner material completely down into the hinge recess in the cabin top.   After gluing down, just cut a small X in each recess and glue down the  edges.

  

 My helper, who does upholstery used a steamer to  stretch the headliner material to get a better fit around the edges and  curves.

  

 It only looks good because of his expertise, not because  of my work.

It’s a flattened tube with a little bit of foam material in the center. It’s about ¾” wide as I recall or thereabouts. She’ll make it out of whatever material you want I think. It works like the baseboard on your house floor and hides the cut edge of the material it’s covering up. I made some thing similar but about 2” wide and about twice as thick to cove the rivet line at the bottom of the glass roof. Abby does excellent work.

Abby's edge trim is glued on after the headliner is  finished.  It goes on over the cut edge of the headliner to give the edge a  finished look.

  

 You can see the edge trim around the top door edge in this  picture:

 The covers between the left and right top door edges cover  the door hinges and are screwed on via nutplates which were installed with pop  rivets before the headliner was glued on.  That way you don't have to worry  about working the headliner down into the pockets of the door hinges, you can  just X cut the fabric at the door hinge pockets and glue down the  edges.

  

 I will try and post a picture tomorrow of Abby's edge trim  around the windows.
