Hello,
I have been following the list for awhile but this is my first time posting. I have finished with my tail section and have started on my slow build wings and would like someone to check out my work. I have been in contact with the local EAA tech counselor but he is way to busy with his business to come by for a check. Tried three different times in the last 2 months to have him stop by. Since I only live about 1 hour drive from Oshkosh (Manitowoc area) I thought that if any of the -10 builders going to Oshkosh could spare part of a day they could stop by and inspect my work. I am pretty flexible the whole week and am not sure which days I will be attending so if anyone could help me out I could stop by and pick them up anytime.

Thanks
Jeff Nichols

Jeff,
Just a thought and my 2 cents,

Are you going to Osh? If you are driving in something like a SUV or mini-van, could you through in some of the smaller items like the rudder, elevator and HS into it and bring them to Osh. I am sure that you would have a flock of builders in the 10 HQ that would give you all the comments you would need. Also, it could be used as a show and tell for would-be builders. Laughing

I have no comment (zero cents) for your tech advisor.

Jeff;
I had the same issue finding a Tech Counselor, I was fortunate.. I finally got the third one I tried to come by, and I know the first two pretty well from the past.. the issue is most are preparing for OSH right now.
The one thing I might suggest is try another TC, maybe even drive to them, if insurance is anything like it is here in the US, having the TC signoff means something down the line. Also the DAR (who happens to also be a TC) mentioned that the certification inspection goes a little faster when the builder shows the TC sheet.
All this may mean nothing but I went with the suggestion to get a sign-off. I am in no means discouraging the RV-10 builders on this list "in addition" it may actually do you more good, but keep on that one guy who is too busy and see if there are others..

Gary,
That is not a bad idea. I might be able to do that. Right now all the parts are together and I would like someone to look at it that way too before I take it back apart.

Thanks
Jeff

Having a tech advisor look things over is very important for many reasons already noted by others but in the interim a couple example pieces looked over by others at Osh would probably go a long way to calming your anxiety.

I had 2 tech advisors in my local area come by and go over my emp and wings just after I put the top skins on. I had several rivets that I was not sure about and I asked them, "In this area, is there any problems with any of the rivets." "No" and they kept looking to see if they could find a rivet that needed replacing. I slept very well that night as they were very happy with my work to that point.

Jeff, I just got back from the NWEAA Arlington Fly-IN and someone has probably already offered. However, I am flying our CJ-6 Fighter/Trainer into Manitowok arriving on Friday PM. Paul Grimstad will fly into MKE on Sunday and we both will head to Sausen’s picnic.

As EAA Tech Counselor #5242, I would be happy to drop by after taking my flight skins off. As Deems’ can tell you I will travel great distances to help make RV-10s the safest kit-built around. Offer good to many US locations.

Try contacting Jeff Point from EAA Chapter 18 out of Timmerman. He is a great guy, owns an RV-6 and is working on an 8. He did my first tech inspection. I live in Muskego, about the same distance you are from OSH only south. Jeff lives in Milwaukee. He may agree to fly up and check your work. I don't have his number handy, but anyone at EAA 18 should be able to get it for you.
Google EAA Chapter 18.
